RECRUITMENT TO RECRUITMENT

“As a recent graduate, recruitment had never crossed my mind. After meeting with Oasis Search, who explained the industry in detail, I quickly realised that recruitment offered me the opportunities I was looking for. With a student loan and the pressures of the real world looming, recruitment provided me the opportunity to be in charge of my earnings, career growth and so much more. After successfully gaining a position in August 2005 as a Researcher I have progressed to Consultant and am on target to earn £34k in my first year.
I cannot thank Oasis Search enough for the support, advice, mentoring and honesty they gave. I highly recommend using them.”

The role of a Recruitment Consultant

Do you enjoy building relationships, meeting people, and the occasional wining and dining? Do you want to work with professionals in a mature environment? Do you want to be responsible for your own earnings, and by being the best, be the highest paid? Do you want to have fun whilst at work? Then recruitment is the industry for you!

Recruitment is an exciting, fast paced and challenging industry, with great financial and personal rewards. As a Recruiter you can be sure that no two days are ever the same, and you will be on a rapid learning curve with great earnings for dedicated people!

A day in the life of a recruitment consultant can involve many things - developing relationships with existing clients, building up a new client base, meeting candidates to ensure they are right for the roles and developing your company’s brand and image within the industry.

This is done through a variety of mediums - phone calls, e-mails, advertisements, interviews and face to face meetings – a varied and exciting job role!

Career prospects

Recruitment provides a fantastic and unparalleled career path. Unlike many other industries where you need years of experience before you can move up the career ladder, recruitment is purely based on your personal performance. The better you perform, the faster you can progress.

A recruitment consultant will generally enter the industry as a Resourcer or Junior Consultant. This provides an excellent basis within which to understand the industry, gain experience and start earning commission from day one.

From here, a Resourcer can progress to Consultant, Senior Consultant, Team leader and Management. With each step your commission level and responsibility increases offering you the opportunity to hone a whole host of skills including sales, managerial and entrepreneurial.

Most candidates find that working in recruitment provides an exceptional opportunity to learn about the business world, gaining an insight into how companies function and being involved first hand in the success of an organisation.

Financial rewards and training

Starting salaries generally range between £18,000 - £22,000 basic in the London region.

Recruitment is a commission led industry; the more success you have the higher your earnings. Typically first year OTE’s are rarely below £30,000. Through a combination of hard work, perseverance and dedication the sky really is the limit. First year OTE’s of £50k+ are achievable.

On top of financial rewards, many consultancies offer monthly, quarterly and annual incentives ranging from ‘experience days’ to high achievers’ lunches to holidays abroad.

A wide range of benefits are offered including company car allowance, laptop, private health schemes and pension.

All of our clients offer comprehensive and ongoing training, mentoring and career development.

What level of education and experience should I have?

The recruitment industry generally welcomes candidates from a range of educational backgrounds with any degree discipline. There is a great future for those individuals with the drive and determination to succeed.

At its core, recruitment consultancy is essentially a sales job with individual targets for employees and performance-related pay and bonus schemes. The recruitment industry is fast moving and challenging. Graduates who are keen to learn and have the right personal attributes will succeed in the recruitment industry.

A background of work experience in any of the following areas would be useful, although not essential, for starting a career in the recruitment industry.

• Sales
• Marketing
• Customer service

If you have background knowledge, degree or professional qualifications in a specific market sector this can be very useful in a specialist recruitment consultancy. An IT, secretarial, law, accountancy or engineering qualification can be very valuable in a recruitment consultancy specialising within those sectors.
